PLEASE NOTE: RIVER SESSIONS ARE RUNNING ON A LIMITED BASIS DUE TO COVID. PLEASE LOOK AT WEBCOLLECT FOR OUR LATEST SESSIONS AND THE ABILITIES REQUIRED TO ATTEND.
DUE TO COVID WE ARE NOT TAKING ON ANY NEW BEGINNER MEMBERS AT PRESENT
Thursday night paddles commence in May and continue until the end of August from 6.30 to hire equipment & get ready (7pm on river) to approximately 8.30pm. Our last session on 29th August is our end of season BBQ. See below for booking instructions.
Thursday 16th May is our memorial paddle in memory of paddlers who are no longer with us, this is for paddlers who can manage 8km on flat water.
We then start on May 23rd with a session for all abilities.
This is the time when the skills learnt in the pool can be put into practice on the River Ouse at Bishopthorpe in York. This is the base for the club’s river trips and the area where equipment is issued.
Coaching for beginners & improvers will take place on alternative Thursdays only.
Due to qualified coach availability we will only be carrying out coaching on the following dates: 23 May, 6 & 20 June, 4 & 17 July, 1,15 & 29 August.
Every Thursday night
Millennium bridge paddle – a group will paddle to the Millennium bridge (aprox 8km) every Thursday night with minimal supervision (occasionally they may paddle down river)
We meet at the container in the York Marine Services & Campsite car park – postcode YO23 2SB
The cost for members & equipment hire is: £4, for non members it is £7 (with a discount for families). There is a launch fee of £1 if you have your own boat. We now have an electronic card reader which we prefer people to use as it saves storing cash at the container.
For the river the following equipment is suggested if you do not have a wet suit – old shoes, trousers/shorts, T shirt & waterproof jacket depending on the weather, plus a change of clothes. All other kit is supplied if you need it in hire price above.
To use the sign up system: You will need to register for our booking system https://webcollect.org.
Toilet / Changing Facilities: Please note that there will no longer be toilet or changing facilities at the river. The toilet block is owned by the caravan site and the owner has kindly requested that we refrain from using this as it is for the use of the campers only. Please ensure that you have sufficient layers / towels / foot mat for changing at the end of the session as it does cool down very quickly. The nearest public toilets are at Askham Bar Park and Ride or Tesco.Share This:
