Lower Wharfe Canoe Club
Kayak Rolling Training
It is proposed that the club will run rolling courses in a more efficient manner:
- The course will run over three consecutive Sundays
- It is anticipated that the courses will be oversubscribed; club members will need to book places with on webcollect, well in advance.
- The instructors want to follow a nationally approved and proven pattern for this training.
- The instructor:student ratio is kept low, so the students get full attention, high quality, safe coaching.
- The coaching scheme breaks the process of rolling down into several small distinct stages
- Its a fairly rapid progression.
- Coaches get all students to stage1; then move on; allstudents to stage 2; then move on etc etc
- If this pattern is found to be productive, then the club intends to run similar 3-week rolling courses, in the second half of each term.
- Every member who wants to roll, will get a chance to learn, if not on the first course, on one of the subsequent courses
- Students will have to commit. If you put your name down, you will be expected to attend all three weeks - no exceptions, no catch-ups.
Preparatory Videos
The National Outdoor Training Centre at Glenmore Lodge, follows the exact same coaching scheme for rolling and has kindly shared some excellent videos with the paddling community. LWCC coaching team would like all potential rolling students to watch these videos in sequence, in preparation for the LWCC rolling course
